BrickSpace coverage of the just ended contest over in the Space-Pirate Group on Flickr. A fantastic round-up of entries into this contest. This entry by 'Nickre on Flickr wonderfully uses a technique originally used by Michael Jasper in a new way and has fantastic use of rubber bands. This entry by 'Ricky features a great idea for a flame thrower and just holds you in with some sort of style. Most likely one of my favorite entries (other than my own of course) is the pirate designed by Tadashistate who executes pirate and space beautifully together. And now taking a short opportunity to blog myself I present my figure for the contest.
Flickr member ArzLan builds one of the most fantastic Droideka's around. An entry into K.A.M. Forums contest. I hold high hopes for this fantastic entry.
Apart from the lengthy title, this 1980's entry to the gominimango contest on flickr (Which you can go to by clicking here). The main thing I like about it though, is the excellent lighting, plain background and camera angle. The three things I look for before even thinking about posting a creation on Brickspace. The idea of having lego people in the real world has been around for a long time, but it hasn't ever been done as well as this. Admittedly it lacks a story, and the minifigures are a bit twitchy but it's a funny concept. You can find it on YouTube by clicking here.

Apart from the utterly utterly utterly stupid super super widescreen, this video is icredible. It's sooo smooth, and the plot is great. I like the camera angles, the lighting and the set. This Bronze Lego sculpture has been circulating around the Internet for ages. It's a bit like marmite, in that you either love it or you hate it. I love it, but there are loads of bad comments on MOC pages. All i'll say to those people is, it's art... deal with it! It was created by the brother of a guy called Casper, and you can visit his creation on MOC pages by clicking here.
Lego people can play with miniature toy blocks too, right? And, just to prove the point, Sugegasa has created a little vignette. I just put this lego macarena video on as I thought it was so bad, It made me laugh. The minifigure looks unrealistic, it is short, the moves are wrong and it basically looks a bit rubbish.

The giant 8ft Lego man who washed up on the beach
At 8ft tall and wearing a garish green jersey he's not the sort of chap to get lost down the sofa.
In fact, you'd think he was unlikely to get lost at all. But someone (possibly someone big), somewhere is missing a key bit of their Lego set.
The colourful character mysteriously washed up on Brighton beach yesterday spawning dozens of tales - soon to become local legend - about where he may have come from.

While some believe he floated from Denmark-where there is a Legoland park), others suggest he toppled off a ship. Of course, there's always the cynical possibility he's part of a publicity stunt.
Resident Gerry Turner, 34, said: 'It's very odd. God knows how it got here but people are saying it's from Holland because it's got some Dutch writing on it.
'It must have fallen off a boat of something. The kids love it.'
Children who helped stand the Lego man up on the beach were desperately curious about where it came from.
One said: 'It's great, but we don't know why it's here.'

A spokesman for Brighton and Hove City Council said town hall officials had no idea of the origin of the Lego man, but added that they saw no difficulty in letting it stay on the beach where it washed up.
He said: 'There's no problem at all. It will be interesting to see how long the Lego man stays there for. We'll keep an eye on it.'
But Lego was insistent: 'We're bemused. He has nothing to do with us.'
The Lego giant's arrival on the East Sussex shingle yesterday morning comes two years after an armada of plastic ducks landed on British shores.
Borne on the ocean currents, the ducks had made a 17,000-mile odyssey from the Pacific where they had been washed from a container ship in a 1992 storm.

I'm at the furthest right stage at the moment, trying to find something to better this!!! Here's the Mindgame studios description:
"This film was a definite deviation in genre from me. I wanted to break away from my regular comedy form and make something a little deeper and meaningful. I also wanted to really try to work at my cinematography on this project, as that was an aspect of my filming I hadn't mastered. This, by no means, is a mastery at cinematography, but it's my best at it so far, in my opinion.
The idea for this film came to me back in I think August or September of 2006. It floated around my head for a while, and mentioned it once or twice to a friend of mine in BrickChat. He really seemed to like the idea, slightly to my suprise. I didn't do much with it afterwards. Within the next couple of weeks, we began studying Plato's Cave Allegory in English class, and it occurred to me how similar it was to the concept of the film I was thinking of.
That gave me a little more inspiration, and I began brainstorming for it a little more. Official production began for it in late October 2006. It progressed very slowly over the course of the next two months, being busy with schoolwork and stuff. Occasionally I would lose interest for a short while, but then regain it after a few days and shoot another couple of shots.
I originally thought the film would have been done by around Thanksgiving, but December came and I was a little over halfway through filming. I promised myself the film would be done by the end of the year, so production sped up pretty rapidly in the next couple of days. I sent a Private Message to a friend of mine, Lewis "Lechnology" Chen, to see if he'd be available to do a special effect for me that I wasn't capable of doing at the time. He agreed to do it, and was very prompt in getting the clips back to me, and I thank him for that.
By December 10, I finally finished filming. I compiled a rough cut of the film and sent it to the resident Brickfilms composer Joseph "The Duke" Frank. To my delight, he said he very much liked the film and would be happy to write a score for me, which he accomplished promptly as well, also to my delight. I opened up Vegas and added in his music, made a few last minute adjustments, and finally rendered the finished product.
Mirrored Perspective was nominated for four 2006 BAMPA Awards, including Best Film, Best Cinematography, Best Score, and Best Sound Design.
This film was also selected to be shown at the Platform International Animation Festival in June 2007, in the "Films By Kids For Kids" screening." -
This is another great film from MindGame Studios. It is, as ever silky smooth and very good quality. It starts off faultlessly. Thecamera angles are very good, and it turns what is a very simple story into what could be called a piece of art. The music goes very well and means there is no need for any talking. It is a pleasure to watch, and I especially like the ending where he smashes the mirror, and walks through the door. Once he reapperars in the alleyway, the lighting and colour quality are excellent. They've done it again, another great piece of eye candy from Mindgame studios.
I thought that this was a very nice set up. It is a bookworm in the best place that any book worm would ever want to be in. What better place than a library???
